Crisis Plan
This plan outlines key procedures, roles, and resources necessary to respond to a variety of potential crises. By establishing clear guidelines and communication strategies, it aims to promote coordination, reduce confusion, and maintain stability. Regular review and preparedness are essential to ensuring that this plan remains relevant and effective in addressing evolving risks.
Medical Emergency
- Remain calm and do not leave the student along.
- Send reliable student to the office immediatley with note.
- Call 911 if the situation is life-threatening; call the front office all other times
- Do not move the student unless they are in immediate physical danger
- Clear other students away to give space and preserve dignity.
- Stay with the student and provide verbal reassurance until help arrives.
- Document the incident in writing as soon as possible.
Behavioral Crisis/ Escelation
- Speak in a calm, low, and even tone, match the energy you want to see.
- Create physical and emotional space; avoid cornering student
- Remove audience: redirect other students to an independent task.
- Use de-escelation language:"I can see you are upset. I am here to help"
- Do not issue ultimatums or power struggle in front of peers.
- If the student becomes a physical danger to themselves or others, contact administration immediatley.
- Follow up privatley with the student after the situation resolves.
- Contact parents/ guardians within 24 hours and document the event.
Student Disclosure (Abuse/ Self harm)
- Listen without interrupting. Do not promise confidentiality.
- Respond calmly: "Thank you for trusting me. I want to make sure you are safe."
- Do not investigate, your role is to receive and report.
- As a mandated reporter, immediatley report to the school counselor or administration.
- Complete the required documentation per district policy.
- Do not discuss the disclosure with other students or staff not directly involved.
- Follow up with the counselor to confirm the report has been filed.
Lockdown/ Intruder alert
- Immediatley lock the classroom door and turn off lights.
- Move all students away from the windows and doors to. corneror designated safe area.
- Silence all phones and devices.
- Do not open door for anyone until an all clear is given by administration.
- Take attendacne silently and text or signla the office with student count.
- Remain calm and quietly reassure students.
- Follow all instructions from law enforcement upon entry.
Mental Health Crisis
- Find a private moment to check in: "I have noticed you seem off today, are you okay?"
- Listen tand validate their feelings without minimizing.
- If there is any mention of self harm or suicide, treat it as an immediate emrgency.
- Do not leave the student along if there is a saftey concern.
- Walk the student to the school counselor or call them to come to you.
- Notify the parents or guardians per school protocol.
- Document what was said and observed.
